The Scrapbook - 1991 to 2019

TADS staged plays at the Town Hall for many years but moved to the Victory Hall when it was built after WW II.
The wooden Victory Hall was replaced by the present (but as yet unextended) Community Centre in 1963.

The following excerpt was taken from "Tarporley Topics" which advertised the November 1991 production of "Candied Peel" :-

"The Society was established in the 1920s but activities lapsed during the years of the second world war.
Plays were presented during the years 1946-1962 in the old Victory Hall which later became our present Community Centre.
The Centre was built in 1963 and the Dramatic Society became an affiliated member society from that year. From 1970-1975 productions were restricted to an annual pantomine written and directed by George Bebington and included items by the Scouts and Tarporley Dancing Troupe. In 1976 normal play productions were resumed - two each year being staged in March and November.
A raffle is held at performances of the plays and each is held in aid of the Community Centre which has recently benefited from this with the purchase of new stage curtains for the Centre.
At present the Dramatic Society comprises 26 members and new members are very welcome - either in an acting capacity, or to help with the numerous back-stage jobs. Annual membership is a mere £2 and details may be obtained from the Secretary (P Billington) on Tarporley 732505."

Acknowledgements

Much of the following material was scanned from the Society's scrapbook which has been kept by Linda Bennett and further scripts
and programmes were loaned to Peter Willis by Margaret Dean (nee Hughes) who appeared in many productions during the 1950s.
The original material dated back to 23rd February 1949 when "Yes And No" was produced by Stanley Wilson in the old Victory Hall,
but more recently, a programme (cost 2D) and press photo for "The Rotters" has been provided by Sheila Hatherley from Australia.

By 2020, it was evident that TADS was approaching its centenary. An initial search by Linda Bennett found reference to a 1926
production of "Nothing but the Truth" which was produced in aid of thr Eaton Village Institute building fund.
Tom Kenny then commissioned a search of the Cheshire Archives with reference to "Tarporley Amateur Dramatic Society" in
local newspapers. The results surprised everybody - read more here
